Costa Rica a verdant dream destination and biological diversity hotspot. This eight-day tour makes those dreams a reality while letting you connect with the country’s charming people. Your spirits will be lifted with a visit to Mi Cafecito Community Coffee Plantation and a G for Good project supporting 200 local farmers, before carrying on to the outdoor adventure playground that is La Fortuna. There, you’ll be treated to a world of wellness, with yoga sessions overlooking the Arenal Volcano, hiking, free time for meditation, and a rejuvenating trip to thermal hot springs. Continue on to remote Rincón de la Vieja for more yoga and a therapeutic mud bath before a final stop in Playa Carrillo. Chilling here at a remote beach, that will give your mind a sense of cleansing and clarity.

Day 1 San José

Arrive at any time and meet your included transfer to the hotel. This evening, meet the group and CEO for a welcome meeting. Take this opportunity to set your intention for the trip ahead.

Day 2 San José/La Fortuna

Drive to Sarapiquí to visit the G Adventures-supported Mi Cafecito Community Coffee Plantation. Learn about the impact this project has had on the community and sample some of the products they sell. Continue on to La Fortuna, an outdoor paradise and the adventure capital of Costa Rica.
Join the group for the first included yoga session on the hotel grounds overlooking Arenal Volcano. Led by a teacher from a local studio, the tranquil setting sets the mood for the week to come.

Day 3 La Fortuna

Visit nearby Lake Arenal this morning for a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) yoga class. If this is your first time on a SUP, the instructor will help you get set up before starting the class. Enjoy free time in the afternoon to take part in optional activities around La Fortuna – opt to go canyoning, hiking, or use the time for rest and meditation.
In the evening, visit nearby hot springs for a relaxing soak in the thermal waters. Breathe in the pure rainforest air and marvel at the mystic surroundings of these outdoor pools of paradise.
Optional Activities:
  • Lost Canyon Adventures Canyoning tour of waterfalls, swimming, trekking through rivers, daring hanging bridges. See the environment from a POV just as the local wildlife do! (Approximately US$90)
  • Hanging Bridges Tour (around 2 hours) A 3km trek through winding trails at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. The adventure incorporates 16 bridges of varying lengths and heights. Suspended high in the rainforest canopy, there are advantageous angles for a long lens to reach out to the exotic birds, monkeys and sloths hanging high above gorges, and cascading falls. (Approximately US$66)
  • La Fortuna Waterfall Swim Access a waterfall close to La Fortuna via a jungle walk, a taxi or horse ride to the gates. There is a fee before reaching the falls 500 steps below. Immerse into cool waters and sounds of nature. Be sure to look out for the irridescent blue morpho butterflies here. (Approximately US$15 plus)

Day 4 La Fortuna/Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park

Travel to the Guanacaste province and head to Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Join a rejuvenating afternoon yoga session on the way to the eco-lodge before free time to relax or explore the great outdoors.
Home to two volcanoes, Rincón de la Vieja is the epitome of Costa Rica: lush jungle, extensive flora and fauna, bubbling mud pools next to volcanic thermal waters, and an escape from the distractions of everyday life.

Day 5 Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park

Enjoy a day of exploring Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Start by taking a short hike to one of the volcanic mud pools in the area. These natural hot springs which give rise to very hot mountain streams; sulfuric ponds filled with bubbling mud. Dare to step in and get muddy..After a rejuvenating exfoliation with the volcanic mud, rinse off in the thermal pools. This afternoon is free to explore the park, or spend time enjoying the lodge.
Optional Activities - Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park;
  • Canyon Canopy Tour - Enjoy a zipline tour that has you flying through the trees on ziplines, rappelling, rock climbing, and cross hanging bridges over a narrow river canyon. Explore the White River Canyon with 7 zip line cables, 1 hanging bridge, 2 Tarzan swings, a controlled 20m (65 ft) rappel, natural rock climbing wall, and via ferrata traverses and climbs.(US$50)
  • Rio Negro Hot Springs - Enjoy the beautiful and relaxing volcanic hot springs bubbling up in the Rio Negro (“Black River”), heated naturally by the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano – the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. (US$20)
  • Simbiosis Spa & Hot Springs - A visit to the Simbiosis Spa & Hot Springs is a relaxing option for a more private hot springs experience. There, enjoy volcanic mud baths, volcanic clay, hot springs pools in the forest, a sauna, massages, and body treatments. (US$35)

Day 6 Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park/Playa Carrillo

Travel to Playa Carrillo on the Nicoya Peninsula, a laidback beach town on the Pacific Coast. Take part in a sunset yoga class overlooking the picture perfect crescent bay of Playa Carrillo.
Known for being less busy than other beaches along the coast, Playa Carrillo is perfect for rest and relaxation as there are few distractions and minimal noise. Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.

Day 7 Playa Carrillo

Head to the beach to learn how to cruise the waves, at an included surf lesson. Take the rest of the day to do beach activities, meditation, or reflect on the journey of the past week. In the evening, take part in a sunset yoga class and enjoy the ocean breeze.

  • Ocean Kayak and Snorkel, Sámara -                                                                 Enjoy the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean by kayaking to a tropical island where you can snorkel amongst the marine life. (US$73)
  • Stand-up Paddleboarding, Sámara -
    Try your hand at Standup Paddleboarding on the Pacific Coast. You'll have a guide to offer instructions and support as you paddle across the bay to the to Chora Island. There you will have an opportunity to swim, spot iguanas, enjoy fresh tropical fruit, or just relax. (US$61)

Day 8 Playa Carrillo/San José

Lingering goodbye to the coast and travel back to San José. Trip ends on arrival at San José Airport.  

Further Info

It is recommended using a backpack for your convenience, or a medium-sized suitcase if you prefer. A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items. Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage. You must be prepared to carry your luggage up and down stairs, on and off transportation, and to hotels.

Water based activities have an element of danger and excitement built into them. It is recommended to only participate in water based activities when accompanied by a guide(s). G Adventures make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards), have a balanced approach to safety. It is their policy not to allow  CEOs (Chief Experience Officers) to make arrangements on your behalf for water based activities that are not accompanied by guide(s).
For Your Health
  • Take along some Mosquito repellant for your own convenience - natural organic products may be better, and are available for purchase locally.
  • Any regular medications, asthma inhalers, vitamins.
  • Yellow Fever - It may be required to show a Yellow Fever certificate upon entering Costa Rica if you have travelled to certain countries with Yellow Fever risk prior to arriving.
Check your personal vaccination requirements lists and dates which renewals may be needed!

Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate in any G Adventures tour. Minimum coverage is US$200,000. Some tours may include activities where extra coverage is required. We can assist you in adding insurance or advising you on insurance group choices upon booking with Twister Travel.
Age Requirements
You must be 18 to travel unaccompanied on a G Adventures tour. For minors travelling with a guardian over 21 years old, the minimum age is 12.
